Célin Jiang at the Venice Biennale 2024

Artist Assistant / Spatial Audio Mixer

As part of the 2024 Venice Biennale, within the Luxembourg Pavilion, Célin Jiang will explore the aesthetics of digital transcendentalism and rococo opulence. This residency will culminate in two immersive performances titled Trans Techno Rococo, activated by the artist’s avatar, Bisou Magique 茜茜 (Qiànqiàn). These performances will offer the audience a deep dive into the artist’s sonic universe, where every note and every silence tell a philosophical and aesthetic story.

By integrating recordings such as the melodies of the hulusi (葫芦丝) and sounds captured in both artificial and natural environments, the artist transforms them into immersive sound pieces. This critical approach examines power relations, reinterprets collective memories, and offers a poetic reflection on our era. Her work shows how sounds, once reworked and recontextualized, become powerful tools for exploring the dynamics of power and surveillance.

Célin Jiang’s approach is rooted in a cyberfeminist and decolonial exploration. She examines how sonic gestures can weave connections between different cultures and temporalities, evoking transcultural narratives and shared memories. Her sound creations and performances question multiple identities and the dynamics of power, surveillance, and control, while offering a critical and poetic lens on our times.

During the Venice Biennale, Célin Jiang will present performances that invite the public to deep listening and meditation on identity and memory.
